Welcome to Gecco Interiors

Welcome to Gecco Interiors and welcome to my first ever blog! I suppose the first question is, what is this site all about and why did we start Gecco Interiors in the first place?

Angie1It was founded by an interior designer (that’s me) and my husband with the business brain, (James) and a desire to build something green. We have been trying to do the ‘green’ thing for some years now. Our first step was to look at our personal footprint and make some changes. We have since banned all flights apart from one trip every two years to visit James’ family in Seattle, switched to Ecotricity, doubled the insulation in the house, replaced our gas-guzzling MPV with a Toyota Prius and changed my VW Polo to bio-diesel from a local co-operative. We have switched our shopping to local suppliers for as much as we can and taken an active role in climate change lobbying and demonstrations. Most recently we have started our own allotment and are looking forward to our first bountiful harvest. There is still so much we can do on a personal level and we were keen to make changes in our working arena as well.

In my interior design practice, I began to look into sustainable materials a while ago and found that it wasn’t that easy to find stylish, well-made, desirable products for the eco-friendly home. Further research and the passage of time has helped me to find more, but they are often very rough in finish and bland in colour. I wanted to offer my clients products for their homes that were not only elegant and stylish, but also beautiful in their composition and production.

Eco is Elegant

At Gecco Interiors, we believe that Eco is Elegant and we hope that the collection on offer will help you to create a beautiful home that expresses your personality and taste, whilst at the same time protecting the wonderful world outside.

Each of our suppliers has been carefully selected by James and myself and they will have varying degrees of ‘green’ due to the constraints of production and technology available today. We hope to find the ‘greenest’ suppliers in each field and have described the production methods and raw material compositon of each product on the site, for you to make an informed decision. In our choice of suppliers, we have taken inspiration from a leading environmentalist Paul Hawken. Towards the end of Leonardo Di Caprio’s amazing film 11th Hour, Paul offers a glimmer of hope, when he says,

“The great thing about the dilemma we are in, is that we get to re-imagine every single thing that we do…………..what a great time to be born, what a great time to be alive, because this generation gets to essentially completely change this world”.

At Gecco Interiors, we applaud those entrepreneurs who have taken the first steps towards making those changes. We hope you like it!
